Weekly Bulletin August 5, 2018

Queries for Eighth Month (August) on Vocations

●        Do we perform our work guided by the Light within?

●        In following our vocations do we contribute to the well being of the larger community? Does our work reflect Friends’ testimonies of honesty, equality, peace, and simplicity?

●        Do we conduct our business affairs so that all parties are treated fairly?

●        Do we have respect for all honest work, paid or unpaid, whether at home or in the community?

●        Are we open to helping individuals who are making vocational decisions?

Friends are reminded that the deadline for submission to the Bulletin is Wednesday at noon. Thank you. Please submit items for the bulletin and/or the Facebook page to the clerks at this address: pfmclerks@gmail.com

Upcoming Events and Announcements

The EarthCare Working Group will meet on Saturday, August 11, at 3:30 p.m. in the Meeting House. Everyone who cares about the integrity of our planet and the continued ability of humans to live on it is welcome.

Working Group Against Racism: Please mark your calendars. On August 19th from 12:15 – 1:45, you are invited to gather to discuss the first module of the AFSC program, Changing Systems, Changing Ourselves: Anti-racist practice for sanctuary, accompaniment & resistance. To watch the webinar, click here. The materials to review and reflect upon in advance of our discussion on the 19th can be found here. If you need childcare, please contact Mary Parish by August 14th. For questions, contact Eva Mergner (eva.mergner@gmail.com)  or Mary Parish (maryparish@gmail.com).

It takes a village – Are you curious about how you can contribute to the care of the Meetings children and youth? First Day School will be hosting open houses this summer – coming up on August 5 at the rise of Meeting upstairs in the Fell or Woolman rooms. Stop by and find out how easy it can be to assist with this vital ministry.

Pamphlets & Pastries, Sunday, August 26, 12:15 pm in the Library. We will conclude our reading and discussion of Jerry Knutson’s Pendle Hill Pamphlet 443, “Individual Spiritual Discernment: Receiving, Testing and Implementing Leadings from a Higher Power.” Jerry plans to join us to hear our thoughts and to answer questions. All are welcome. Copies of the pamphlet will be available—as well as tasty pastries.

Generosity Plant Share: get a house plant when you make a contribution to the Building Spiritual Space fund. Also, if you got a plant from a previous Share, and it’s still in its original container, bring it and a new, bigger pot (check out Home Depot) to give it room to grow. We’ll provide potting soil and do the transplanting for you, if you wish. There will be a few larger pots available, but you may get purple!

Pittsburgh FCNL Advocacy Team Updates:The next Pittsburgh FCNL Advocacy Team meeting will take place on August 7th. All are welcome to join us. This is not a “Quakers only” action committee, so please spread the word. For more information, anyone can contact Von Keairns (yekeairns@att.net) or Mary Parish (maryjparish@gmail.com).

No Better Time to Donate! Update from Finance: The rosy donation reports were based on “half-budget” projections reflecting half a year of construction. Our “true” donation budget is $51,000. We are at $42,732. Another $8300 is needed by August 31 to make donation budget this fiscal year. We will try to avoid this confusion next fiscal year.
