Queries for Eighth Month (August) on Vocations

●        Do we perform our work guided by the Light within?

●        In following our vocations do we contribute to the well being of the larger community? Does our work reflect Friends’ testimonies of honesty, equality, peace, and simplicity?

●        Do we conduct our business affairs so that all parties are treated fairly?

●        Do we have respect for all honest work, paid or unpaid, whether at home or in the community?

●        Are we open to helping individuals who are making vocational decisions?

Friends are reminded that the deadline for submission to the Bulletin is Wednesday at noon. Thank you. Please submit items for the bulletin and/or the Facebook page to the clerks at this address: pfmclerks@gmail.com

Upcoming Events and Announcements

Volunteers Needed: If you would like to volunteer at the Saturday, August 19th Porch Party/Open House/Flea Market being organized by the Outreach Committee, please sign up ASAP with Retta or Rachel! fortunecookie409@gmail.com  We want to know far in advance whether we will have the needed quantity of volunteers. Many volunteers are needed! You won’t have to volunteer the full hours of the event (10-3); we will work with your availability.

EECM College Supply Drive: Each summer, East End Cooperative Ministry sends to a number of the high school students they have mentored, some since grade school, to college. For many, these are the first members of their families to go to college. These teens have developed the sense of purpose and self-worth to give themselves real chances as adults. EECM asks its member congregations to provide things they’ll need at college. Please check the box near the coat racks for a list of items to contribute. EECM is asking that the donations be in by August 18.

First Day School Information Session: August 20.  For teachers, those considering teaching and those who are willing to help in some way but would rather not teach. Join us at 12:15 in the Margaret Fell room.

Pamphlets & Pastries: Sunday, August 27, 12:15 pm in the Library. Back to our Pendle Hill Pamphlet reading/sharing group as summer draws to a close! We will pick up where we left off in PHP 383, “Answering the Call to Heal the World” by Patience A. Schenck. The pamphlet can be borrowed from the Library; copies will also be provided at the meeting. All are welcome, including those who haven’t participated in earlier discussions.

LEYM Spiritual Formation Retreat, Sept 15-17, Weber Retreat Center, Adrian, MI  – The theme of the retreat is Practicing Forgiveness as a Spiritual Discipline, and it is led by Sue Regen. More information and registration materials available at https://leym.org/spiritual-formation/  Financial support may be available.

Fall Gathering!: Our Fall Gathering will take place from Friday, October 13 through Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Camp Crestfield in Slippery Rock, PA. The title is “Forgiveness, Gratitude and Compassion — Opening the way to more joy and connection.” A variety of camp activities will be offered, and there will be a talent show. Scholarships are available. (Contributions to the scholarship fund are also welcome.) Questions may be directed to Sam (sam2milford@gmail.com) or Chie (chie.togami@gmail.com). You can register at http://tinryurl.com/fallgathering17. (There will be a registration table at Meeting on a September date.)

Friendly Utility Players – These are folks who might be willing to help out with a specific need of a committee, a short-term or one-off task. It’s easy. Volunteers, add your name to the list. Committee members, when there is a need, send me a request and I’ll pass it on to the list. Members of the list should only get two emails per request – one asking for help and one notifying that a match has been made. This seems like a friendly way to support the ongoing work of our committees, particularly for those whose schedules make serving on committees difficult. If you’d like to join the volunteer list, please email Mary King kingmary1@gmail.com.

Library Committee: “Reading for a Rainy Day” Look for summer reading suggestions on the library mantel. The Sunday morning parlor display has gone on vacation—but the mantel selection will be periodically updated. Note “New Books” there, too. See borrowing instructions on library desk, and have a good read!

When scheduling meetings and other events, please keep in mind that the Meeting House is CLOSED on Mondays until 5 pm and all day and evening on Fridays.

The House Manager’s email is: pfmoffice7@gmail.com
