Weekly Bulletin May 21, 2017
|Queries for Fifth Month (May) on Participation in Meeting
● Do we participate as fully as we can in the Meeting community and accept our share of responsibility for carrying out its work?
● Do we widen our circle of friendship within the Meeting and welcome newcomers?
● How do we provide for family participation in Meeting activities?
● How do we order our time before Meeting for Worship so that we can come prepared with hearts and minds in a spirit of true devotion and living expectancy?
● Are Meetings for Worship with Attention to Business held in expectant waiting for the guidance of the Light? Do we seek the appropriate course of action in a spirit of love, understanding, and forbearance?
Friends are reminded that the deadline for submission to the Bulletin is Wednesday at noon. Thank you. Please submit items for the bulletin and/or the Facebook page to the clerks at this address: firstname.lastname@example.org
Upcoming Events and Announcements
May 21, PFM Group Picture, Rise of Meeting – The Outreach Committee of Pittsburgh Friends Meeting is working to organize a BIG GROUP PHOTO of Members and Attenders on Sunday, May 21, 2017. The photo would take place between Announcements and Hospitality, and we hope to do the line-up and photo as quickly as possible. We would like as many Members and Attenders as possible to be in this photo, but ONLY if you feel comfortable being in a photo that would be used on the Internet and printed on paper PFM Outreach flyers. There will not be any close-ups of faces– it would be a photo of a large group of people standing and sitting together, cheerfully, in rows. Parents, please advise your kids/teens (in advance) whether you give them permission to be in the p…
This month’s Adult Ed program, on May 21 at 12:15, will explore the Quaker notion of inner light. We’ll use excerpts from Rex Amblers pamphlet, “The Light Within,” to guide our conversation.

The Friends General Conference 2018 Gathering Committee invites Friends from LEYM to join them in envisioning a challenging, fruitful, and inspirational week by becoming a member of the FGC 2018 Gathering Committee. The 2018 Gathering will be held in Toledo OH. An invitation is posted on the bulletin board and Friends can find an Expression of Interest Form online at www.FGCquaker.org/gathering-committee.
Spiritual Support Groups Forming: Ministry committee would love to hear from you if you’re interested in joining a spiritual support group! These small groups (not more than 6 people) are kind of like a Friendly Interest Group, but with a focus on exploring or growing your spiritual lives together, in the “spiritual friendship” mold. Groups would meet once a month for 6 months (before an optional re-up!) We recognize that people may have different ways they want to work together, and we’ll see how to make the best matches – some may be more interested in reading and discussion, some in personal sharing. FGC also has a new spiritual deepening program that is an option – we’ll facilitate the use of that if groups are interested. If you’d like to be added to the list, please fill out this form: https://goo.gl/forms/dyGqICqRcxngrJGW2 or talk to a Ministry committee member. If you’re already part of a group and want to switch it up, please feel free to enter your name as well!
