Upcoming Events and Announcements
Peace & Social Concerns invites you to a viewing and conversation of Ava DuVernay’s documentary 13th at Pittsburgh Friends Meeting House on November 17th 7 P.M. “Ava DuVernay’s 13th is a documentary about how the Thirteenth Amendment led to mass incarceration in the United States, but it’s also a gorgeous, evocative, and maddening exploration of words: of their power, their roots, their permanence. It’s about those who wield those words and those made to kneel by them.” (The Atlantic, Oct 6th)
Pamphlets & Pastries: Sunday, October 30, 12:15 pm in the Library. The Pendle Hill Pamphlet discussion group, sponsored by Library Committee, will meet to continue sharing thoughts about PHP #388, “Expectant Listening” by Michael Wajda. Copies of the pamphlet will be provided; copies are also available for borrowing. All are welcome.
Newcomer Recognition Day: Following the rise of Meeting on Sunday October 30th, there will be a recognition of those who are new to Meeting this year, giving us a second chance to welcome them. We will have pies & cider for this autumn celebration. Please be on hand to welcome again all those who have joined us in worship for the first time this year.
Saturday Salon Rescheduling! Due to a space use conflict, the date of the Fall 2016 Saturday Salon must be changed! Please see a member of the Library Committee, or consult this bulletin and the bulletin boards for further announcements. This “Evening of Shared Creative Expression” will feature Claire Cohen and Barra Jacob-McDowell, and will include refreshments and Open Mic.
SAVE THE DATE. Fall Gathering 2017 will be held on the 13-15th of October 2017. The fall colors should be spectacular! Please note that this is a month later than in the recent past. Stay tuned for updates in the coming months.
Friendly Interest Groups (FIGS): Our Friendly Interest Groups are now forming for the winter and spring. Sign-up sheets will be posted in the parlor of Meeting House beginning this first day. If you would like to form a new group, please use a form on the table in the parlor, or email Jim Morgan (firstname.lastname@example.org) for a copy of the form. In the past groups have been formed around singing, dining, excursions, etc. Continuing groups looking for more members include the harmony group, the healthy eating group, and a monthly Oakland lunch group.
The Library Committee wishes to sponsor a Friendly Writers’ Group in prose and poetry. We hope to meet monthly in the library for two hours, on a weekday afternoon or evening. Please contact Barra Jacob-McDowell at email@example.com or 412-389-3910 to sign up.
Meal Train for Sara Bowen-Salio is still up and running. Check in for information on available dates, food preferences, etc. The family will be grateful for any support they receive.
