Weekly Bulletin July 31, 2016

Queries for Seventh Month (July) on Unity in Meeting
• Do we seek to nurture a spirit of unity in our Meeting?
• If a problem or conflict arises within the Meeting, do we make timely efforts to address the issue in a spirit of love and humility? As we seek unity, do we listen to one another carefully and with openness to Truth?
• Are we able to express our views honestly and with respect for those who differ with us? Are we prepared to set aside our individual desires or opinions in order to reach unity in the divine Light?
• Are we willing to wait patiently for divine guidance rather than be hurried by the passing of time?
• When the Meeting has made a decision, do we continue to care for and respect one another, regardless of our differing personal views?

Friends are reminded that the deadline for submission to the Bulletin is Wednesday at noon.
Thank you. Please submit to the clerks at this address: pfmclerks@gmail.com

Announcements and Upcoming Events

Fellowship of Friends of African Descent 2016 Gathering Philadelphia August 12-14, 2016 Recharge, Renew, and Rejoice! Fellowship of Friends of African Descent was formed out of a desire that Black Quakers know each other. This year’s theme invites us to take time for ourselves and Recharge; calls us to Renew our commitment to social justice; and offers the opportunity to Rejoice in the Fellowship of Friends. Registration is now open! Please click on the below link: http://www.fofad.org/2016-gathering.html.

Fall Gathering 2016 is Sept 16, 17 & 18 at Camp Crestfield: The theme of this year’s gathering is Seeing, Knowing, Sharing, Growing. Cari Burke who has been active in leading the FGC Young Friends and LEYM young friends program in the past, will be the facilitator and her focus will be on the Young Friend’s program. The adult program will still be exciting and new and offer opportunities for spiritual growth and community building. Online registration is open by following this link: https://goo.gl/forms/iTPnZmkV1JJWcZUt1

Make a contribution! In order to ensure that all Young Friends are able to attend Fall Gathering for the special program led by Cari Burke, we are asking Friends to sponsor a child or making a contribution to our own “kickstarter campaign so we can defray the cost of room and board for these young friends.” The cost for one child is close to $50 for the weekend. There will be pledge forms available in the meeting house. We would like to have your pledges in soon so when registration begins in August we will be able to share the good news with parents regarding the reduced cost for their children. Contact Sam ((drpatriciam@gmail.com 412-719-8031) or Walter ((Waltermead@hotmail.com 412-856-1095) with your pledge or leave a check in the Fall Gathering mailbox at the Meeting House or with Eric Starbuck. Please note on your check “FG16 Young Friends fund.”

Child Care is looking for volunteers to work with our amazing children this summer! For more information, please see or email Anya Moon (anyaemoon@gmail.com) or Mary Beth Steisslinger (mbsteisslinger@gmail.com). While PA now requires all volunteers working with children to obtain a criminal background check, this is free and easy to do! All the required forms are also attached to the email circulating the bulletin. Paper copies of these forms are available at the Meeting House. You can see Kathie Hollingshead (hollingsheadks@gmail.com) for further instructions or assistance. Yes, we can walk you through this process right at the meetinghouse if you prefer!

Typists needed! Summer months mean spottier schedules. Are you interested in being one of the typists that captures ministry and announcements during Meeting for Worship? If so, please contact Susan for more information: susanloucks@gmail.com

Get the weekly e-bulletin! To get the bulletin or newsletter by email, please send a request to ericwilliamstarbuck@gmail.com. . Eric will invite you to join the right PFM Google group. To get a listing in the Meeting Directory (both print and e-versions — the e-directory publishes more often) fill out a Green Card that sits in the parlor on a coffee can in the opposite corner from the piano.

Library Committee: Once again, the Sunday morning parlor display is on summer vacation! But “Reading for a Rainy Day” books are displayed on the library mantel. This selection will be updated as summer goes on—especially if Friends borrow these books! Borrowing instructions are posted on the mantel and on the library desk.
