Queries for May (Fifth Month) on Participation in Meeting

• Do we participate as fully as we can in the Meeting community and accept our share of responsibility for carrying out its work?
• Do we widen our circle of friendship within the Meeting and welcome newcomers?
• How do we provide for family participation in Meeting activities?
• How do we order our time before Meeting for Worship so that we can come prepared with hearts and minds in a spirit of true devotion and living expectancy? Are Meetings for Business held in expectant waiting for the guidance of the Light? Do we seek the appropriate course of action in a spirit of love, understanding and forbearance?

Announcements and Upcoming Events

TODAY: Meeting for Worship with Attention to Business, 12:15pm

First Day School (FDS) students will plant flowers around the Meeting House on Sunday, May 24th, during 10:30 Meeting for Worship. We will need extra work gloves, trowels and small shovels. If you have any of these items you can loan, please write your name on them, leave them on the front porch as you come in to Meeting that day and don’t forget to retrieve them as you leave. Thank you!

FDS will hold its annual Carnival on Sunday, June 7th, after the rise of 10:30 Meeting for Worship. Volunteers are needed to help set up, run and take down games. Those interested in helping should contact Walter Mead. Also, donations of books are now being accepted for a book sale the day of the Carnival with proceeds to benefit an organization the students will select. Books for adults and children may be left in the box on the landing of the Meeting House. Thank you!

Saturday Salon in the parlor, sponsored by Library Committee: Saturday, May 23, 7-9 pm. Featured: Nancy Esther James reading her poetry. After light refreshments, there will be “Open Mike” for anyone wanting to share their spoken word (poetry, storytelling, essay, book excerpt) and/or musical talents (vocal and/or instrumental). Please contact Barra Jacob-McDowell for details and to sign up for Open Mike by May 20. All are welcome to attend as audience!

Typists are needed! We will be scheduling typists through the summer months and more are needed for the service we provide each First Day to those Friends and Attenders who have difficulty hearing. Perfection is not expected. Nothing close to perfection, actually. Some typists listen to the vocal ministry and then share the essence of it. Others try to capture most of the message. In either case, those who are benefiting from the service are very forgiving of mistakes. Willing to give it a try? Contact Mary King.

Bible Study: No Bible study in May. Please join us in June as we begin the study of the book of Esther. Questions? Contact Mary Parish.

Outreach Committee: Check out the expanded FIGs (Friendly Interest Groups) on the parlor bulletin board.
