Queries for August (Eighth Month) on Vocations
* Do we perform our work guided by the Light within?
* In following our vocations do we contribute to the well being of the larger community? Does our work reflect Friends’ testimonies of honesty, equality, peace, and spirituality?
* Do we conduct our business affairs so that all parties are treated fairly?
* Do we have respect for all honest work, paid or unpaid, whether at home or in the community?
* Are we open to helping individuals who are making vocational decisions?

Ministering to the Meeting
“There is an amazing blessing in holding the entire meeting and each individual in love.” – Patricia McBee

Announcements and Upcoming Events
TODAY: Meeting for Worship with Attention to Business 12:15pm

Building Spiritual Space Committee: The architects’ presentation from the June 22, 2014 meeting has been posted online for those who could not attend and for those who would like to review it in further detail at http://buildingspiritualspace.tumblr.com/.

Concerned about the refugee children on the border? You can help. Casa San Jose is working with children from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala right here in Pittsburgh! They are in immediate need of gift cards for food and clothing (or taking children to Goodwill and buying them clothes), people to provide transportation to medical and dental appointments, tutors for Kindergarten and school aged children, and people to help get children registered in the public schools. Transportation does not require that you speak Spanish. Also, they are looking for a list of potential, short-term foster families for children (not here yet) who are too young for group homes. This would require proficiency in Spanish. Contact Kathie Hollingshead for more information.

Hospitality: Hospitality Hosts continue to be needed for all Sundays, including Second Sunday Potlucks. There is a sign-up list located on the bulletin board just inside the kitchen door. You can also sign up at this Doodle link: http://doodle.com/4p8ehwshgrbwknt4

Help with Summer Childcare Needed: Do your part to maintain the intergenerational component of our community. Sign up on this Doodle poll http://doodle.com/uha4zpbry644i3pq

Stories & Scones Book Club will meet Sunday, August 24, at 12:15 pm to discuss the writings and work of Rufus Jones, a founder of the American Friends Service Committee. Jones (1863-1948) has been called a “mystic of the everyday” and a great “spiritual philosopher.” Several books by and about Jones are in our library, including several copies of Rufus Jones: Essential Writings, selected and introduced by Kerry Walters.

Fall Gathering Youth leaders needed. Sept. 19-21. Would you like to assist the Young Friends program at this year’s Fall Gathering? We need adult leaders for all age groups as we explore the Gathering theme, “Toward a More Caring Community.” If you are interested, please contact Fall Gathering Committee co-convener Anthony Flynn. P.S. Youth leaders receive free room and board!

Upcoming Ministry Committee Adult Classes: We appear to be on the same wavelength as the Fall Gathering Committee. For the coming year we will be offering adult classes on the theme: “Toward a Caring Community,” which is also the theme for this year’s Fall Gathering. We are working on an adult class for October, after the Gathering, on the Topic "How Does a Quaker Meeting Provide Pastoral Care and Support for Friends in Difficulty." In November we will focus on Thanksgiving with an adult class on "Gratitude as a Spiritual Practice." We then plan to return to the year’s theme "Toward a Caring Community." Please plan on joining us. Don’t miss out on all the excitement!
